What is Pediatric CPR, AED & First Aid?
Pediatric CPR, AED & First Aid is a course developed by American Heart Association to specifically address emergencies in a childcare setting. For California preschool and daycare providers, this curriculum is approved by the Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA) which fulfills the childcare licensing requirement.
This training is much longer than a standard Adult-Child-Infant CPR & First Aid course, because it goes in-depth into a wide array of situations a childcare worker might face when taking care of infants and children.
FAQ's
What is the difference between Pediatric CPR, AED & First Aid and the standard CPR, AED & First Aid course?
The General-Level (or “standard”) CPR, AED & First Aid course covers all age groups (adult, child, and infant), and is designed to teach foundational principles for emergency response. The general course best serves parents, family groups, babysitters, and K-12 teachers who would like to feel confident to respond in the event of a cardiac, first aid, or choking emergency.
The AHA Pediatric CPR, AED & First Aid course is specifically for daycare or childcare workers in the state of California who need to fulfill the EMSA CPR regulation for licensing. While anyone can take this training, the length of the course and certain situational aspects might be overwhelming for the general-rescuer.
Still have questions? Give us a call! We’d be happy to discuss course options and provide recommendations for training.
Will my certification have the EMSA stickers?
Pediatric CPR, AED & First Aid certifications provided through the American Heart Association do not need the EMSA stickers on the card. AHA and Red Cross curriculums are pre-approved by EMSA as valid for mandated California childcare requirements, and therefore EMSA states that “it is illegal for the EMSA Stickers to be placed on these cards.” You can view the EMSA regulations relating to the stickers on their FAQ: https://emsa.ca.gov/childcare_provider/
I signed up for the wrong class!
That’s OK! Give us a call or send us an email and we can make the corrections and payment adjustments to ensure you take the class you need.
Can I pay when I come to class?
Yes, but paying when you arrive does NOT guarantee your seat in class. We recommend registering and paying ahead of time in order to reserve your seat.
Can I reschedule? Is there a rescheduling fee?
Yes, rescheduling is easy and only comes with a small fee of $7 for our standard course types: Pediatric CPR, CPR & First Aid, and BLS.
All reschedules for Pediatric CPR, First Aid, or BLS must be within 6 months of initial registration date.
***Cancellations and refunds after the initial class reschedule are subject to a $10.00 cancellation fee for CPR, First Aid and BLS. ACLS and PALS will not be refundable after the initial class reschedule or the class date has passed.
How do I get a replacement card?
For general-level training, replacement certification cards are free and can be requested at any time by phone or email. Feel free to give our administration team a call at 916-259-0043 or send us an email at info@procprclasses.com.
I don’t own an AED; do I still need to learn how to use one?
Yes! AEDs are the most important rescue devices for people in cardiac arrest, and they are widely available (and often required) in public spaces. CPR training is not complete without the AED learning portion.
How long is my certification good for?
Regardless of course type, your certification will be valid for 2 years.
What should I wear?
Class involves hands-on practice so it is best if you wear comfortable clothes that you can move around in. You will be on the floor and bending a lot during practice. If you have long hair, it’s best to wear it back.
What is the minimum age for CPR, First Aid, or AED certification?
There is no minimum age for CPR training. If a student can understand the information and pass the skills testing, then a certification card can be issued.
