What is PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)?
PALS is informally considered the pediatric counterpart to ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support). A step above the standard Healthcare Provider BLS (Basic Life Support) training, PALS is designed for healthcare professionals who are involved in emergency response relating to infants and children. This includes personnel working in critical or intensive care units and emergency medicine.
Providers taking an American Heart Association PALS course will need to complete the precourse work prior to taking the in-person training. This allows the student to self-assess their current skills and provides the PALS course instructor with an understanding of each student’s placement. During class, the PALS curriculum is tailored to students’ individual levels to ensure everyone leaves the training feeling confident in pedicatric advanced resuscitation techniques.
